While I was travelling a lot in 2019 (and living in Thailand for a year), I ended up picking up local sim cards in each country I visited. What I quickly realised is that although I use a password manager with 2FA code generation capability, some services are still dependent on SMS for two factor authentication
The services that impacted me most were banking one time passwords to confirm large transactions and bank transfers, and services that still relied on SMS only as a 2FA solution such as my insurance provider and government accounts
To combat this I created a virtual, international number that I switched my services to and then wrote a software program to redirect the text messages and phone calls from that number on to what ever temporary number I was using currently
I had some friends experience the same problem so now I have created a little service that automates this for a small monthly fee - head to the link below to find out more
